Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and TrueLie LLC, a Pennsylvania limited liability company (“TrueLie,” “we,” “us”). They govern your use of the TrueLie mobile app and related services (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

1. Who can use TrueLie

You must be at least 18 years old and located in the United States to use TrueLie. By using the Service, you confirm that you meet these requirements and that you can form a binding contract.

2. Your account

You're responsible for your account, keeping your login secure, and everything that happens under it. Give us accurate information and keep it current. Tell us right away at [email protected] if you think your account has been accessed without your permission.

3. What TrueLie is — and what it isn't

TrueLie helps groups of golfers plan trips, keep score, run golf games, and keep track of who owes whom.

TrueLie is a scorekeeping and record-keeping tool. It is not a gambling service, a payment service, or a bank. Specifically:

We never hold, receive, transfer, or process money between users. We don't take a fee or a cut of any game, bet, or expense.
We are not a party to any wager or agreement between users. Any stakes, side games, or shared costs are arranged entirely between you and the people you play with.
Payment links are a convenience. When you tap a link to pay someone (for example, through Venmo), you leave TrueLie and use that third party's service under its own terms. We don't see or control those payments.
Amounts shown in TrueLie are records, not obligations we enforce. We are not responsible for whether anyone pays, the accuracy of amounts users enter, or any dispute between users.
You are responsible for making sure any games you play for money are legal where you play them.

4. Handicaps and scores

Handicaps calculated in TrueLie are unofficial estimates based on the rounds you enter. They are not an official USGA Handicap Index® or affiliated with GHIN. Scores, results, and payouts depend on the information users enter; we don't guarantee their accuracy.

5. Subscriptions (TrueLie Pro)

Some features require a paid subscription (“TrueLie Pro”), including money-tracking features (game stakes, payouts, settlement, trip payments, and Crew expenses), Memory Cards, Pulse, and the live scoreboard.

Plans: $5.99 per month or $39.99 per year (U.S. prices; may change with notice).
Free trial: new subscribers may get a 14-day free trial. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, your subscription starts and you'll be charged.
Billing and renewal: subscriptions are purchased and billed through your Apple ID and renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before renewal.
Canceling: manage or cancel anytime in your iPhone's Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. Canceling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the current period.
Refunds: payments are handled by Apple. Refund requests go through Apple's process.
Group access: when a trip or Crew organizer (or a game's creator) has an active subscription, other members may use premium features within that trip, Crew, or game. That access ends if the organizer's subscription ends.

6. Your content

You keep ownership of what you add to TrueLie — photos, messages, scores, trip details, and other content (“Your Content”). You give TrueLie a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, display, and share Your Content only as needed to run the Service (for example, showing your photos to members of your trip). This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for content others have already saved or copies kept for legal or backup reasons for a limited time.

You're responsible for Your Content. Only share content you have the right to share, and only share photos of other people with their permission.

7. Rules of conduct

Don't use TrueLie to:

harass, threaten, bully, or impersonate anyone;
post illegal, hateful, sexually explicit, or violent content;
break any law, including gambling laws where you are;
spam people or send unwanted invitations;
access accounts, data, or parts of the Service you aren't authorized to access, or interfere with the Service's security or operation;
copy, reverse engineer, or resell the Service.

You can block and report users in the app. We may remove content or suspend or close accounts that break these rules.

8. Ending your account

You can delete your account anytime in the app (Settings). We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms or if we need to for legal or security reasons. Deleting your account doesn't cancel an Apple subscription — cancel that in your iPhone settings.

9. Changes

We may update the Service and these Terms. If we make material changes, we'll let you know in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use TrueLie after changes take effect means you accept them.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent allowed by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't promise that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that scores, handicaps, or amounts will be accurate.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, TrueLie LLC won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost money or profits, including any money owed between users, any wager, or any payment made through a third party. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim, or $50.

12. Indemnity

You agree to defend and hold TrueLie LLC harmless from claims arising from your use of the Service, Your Content, any games or agreements between you and other users, or your breaking these Terms or the law.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Pennsylvania, and you consent to their jurisdiction.

14. Apple

These Terms are between you and TrueLie LLC, not Apple. Apple isn't responsible for the Service or its content, has no obligation to provide support, and isn't responsible for any claims relating to the Service. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. Your use of the app must also follow Apple's Media Services Terms.
